Content Warnings:
- Dormancy (of system members).
- Integration (of system members).
- Dissipation (of tulpas).
- Mention of cringe content.
We figured we’d make a timeline detailing important events in our system. Any details of trauma and such will be left out, so don’t worry about that. Mentions of integration, dormancy and dissipation below, however, so proceed with caution.
Some parts are probably left out because I’m forgetful, so if I remember something important, this post will be updated with more information.
2003 - Singlet Time
Our original was born. They went by our deadname, so that won’t be mentioned here, they will be referred to as “the original”.
2010 - It begins.
The original made some imaginary friends who became tulpas. All of these were Pokemon, the main two “imaginary friends” being Reshiram (who came slightly later than the others) and Dialga. Reshiram functioned similarly to the Reshiram from Legendaries from Construct (props if you know what that is), while Dialga was more serious and functioned as a protector.
A traumatic event involving cops and paramedics (this is important later), resulted in me walking in during the later half of the year, and the original going dormant. I didn’t know I wasn’t the original at this point in time. The switch between us was fluid and I retained most memories of times before the original went dormant. No one noticed the difference.
2015 - Otherkin!
The tulpas were dissipating due to the body’s parents teasing us for having them. Once again, I didn’t know that they were sentient and neither did the tulpas themselves.
I discovered the otherkin community at age 11 (through a cringe compilation of all things)! At this point in time I wasn’t active in the community due to being too young to actually be using the internet properly, though I watched from a distance. I felt a connection to Otherkin, and knew I was one, just… not what I was.
2016 - What’s a soulbond? A tulpa?
I finally discovered some form of system terminology (though the term “system” wasnt known to me yet). I didn’t piece together that my “imaginary friends” were tulpas though, at this point in time anyway. I read a lot of information on how to make a tulpa, what they are and why you should be careful when making one.
I also discovered the term “soulbond”. On the site I was reading, it was described purely as a day-tripper soulbond, aka a soulbond that can come and go from this world. That seemed like less of a commitment than a tulpa, and meant I could talk to my favourite characters. It sounded cool and was something I wanted to try.
2017 - It really begins.
After discovering soulbonding in 2016, I decided to give it a try and soulbonded a version of Silver the Hedgehog (after a failed attempt at soulbonding a Shadow, who told me to go away in the rudest way possible). He came and went from my system as a day-tripper (though I didn’t have that term yet) though I hardly got to speak to him.
2017 is also the time where I discovered fictionkin on Tumblr. I identified as Shadow the Hedgehog, firstly. I fell into the trap of “kin for fun” for a while, and ended up with a list of 20+ kintypes.
I joined a sonic otherkin community and changed my personal friends server (People that Exist) to be an otherkin server, based on Sonic the Hedgehog (The Cosmic Interstate–that still exists today!). I banned anyone from the old group who went against the otherkin joining. I was willing to give them a last chance, but after previous toxic behaviours (transphobia toward me, ableism, etc) that they continued and turned into antikin sentiment, they needed to go.
There were a lot of problems with The Cosmic Interstate when the name first changed, and it took a long time to fix them. But it was my server and I wanted to make it great.
In late 2017, we ended up with our first walk-in that wasn’t me (I still didn’t know I was a walk-in)–Fleety! He was a protector and persecutor at the time, and was co-host for a long time. His purpose is to protect the system from physical harm.
Around November, I also discovered my identity as Zonic the Zone Cop due to someone from the servers I was in introducing me to the character. This has been the most important and influential identity I have discovered to date. Everything about this identity felt right.
2018 - More headmates.
I joined Therian Guide in the early parts of the year and learned what Otherkin really was. It helped me learn to actually question my identities, and I cut my kintype list back to be only a few characters left. As far as I remember, Zonic, Shadow and my theriotypes were the only identities that remained.
Xeros, Royal, Jade, Bill, Mini, Hallow, Zonic (not me, another one), Price and Xeno all joined our system through walking in or splitting throughout the year. This might seem like a lot, but a lot more headmates have joined since.
When Royal walked in, he merged with one of the tulpas we had, Dialga, making him a multifictive which he discovered later on. He’s a protector of our system now.
I also discovered the term alterhuman, but didn’t use it too much. Copinglinking, Otherlinking, Otherhearted and similar terms were all terms I recently learned of and was trying to understand.
2019 - Really getting into the community.
This blog was made! It wasn’t great when I started, but it sure existed. I started really getting into the community and was getting serious about my identity. I joined more otherkin and system servers, collecting as much information as I could. I made posts here about my experiences and included community information that I found as well.
We gained ~13 systemmates (number is approximate as some left). That’s more than the last year. System growth was picking up a bit more. We also got Reshiram, one of the original tulpas back!
I also created The Alterhuman Sanctuary discord server (with help from the Sparks system)! This was a project to help more people learn about alterhumanity and the various sub-categories of it. Right at the end of the year, we also created The Mindscape discord server for systems and such, as TAS was full of them and we figured a place for systems would be beneficial.
2020 - More of… Everything.
We created Exotrauma Recovery, The Scourge and The Pentagram, all servers for alterhumans of some variety.
I also discovered I wasn’t the original in the system. Me being the original didn’t make sense, and being a fictive of Zonic felt right. It was confusing and strange to get used to not using fictionkin terminology for my identity, but I got there, and now I identify as a fictive of Zonic the Zone Cop. Me being a cop in my last life related to the trauma that made me walk in, so it made perfect sense.
In 2020, we also gained ~40 headmates (number is approximate as some left). Yeah. That’s a jump from last year.
I came out as alterhuman to my psychologist and psychiatrist. The psychologist was accepting, and embraced my identity, while the psychiatrist was iffy about it as best. I’m planning on writing a post about that in the future.
2021 - Continuing on.
There’s not too much that’s happened this year aside from me questioning a few identities. Though we have gained 7 system members already….Oops. TAS is at 500+ server members, I’m happy with how this blog is going, I have friends, I have people I can talk about experiences with, I’m comfortable where I am right now.
I don’t know what this year is going to throw at me, but I’m going to take this year as a chance to branch out, post more and talk about alterhumanity as much as possible.
Conclusion
Thank you to anyone who read through this, even if you just skimmed. I wouldn’t be here where I am today, I wouldn’t be as happy, and I wouldn’t be as content with myself if I hadn’t found the alterhuman community. I appreciate you all for existing and making your presence known. Keep doing what you’re doing, keep making content, keep talking about your experiences.
